<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems in conventional method of detecting failure of temperature sensors by open/short detection, that false detection of temperature of temperature sensors mounted on an indoor heat exchanger of an indoor unit can not be found, which causes dew dripping and scattering from a supply opening of the indoor unit in a cooling operation, defective cooling of a room in the cooling operation, and defective heating in a heating operation. <P>SOLUTION: In this air conditioner, false detection is found from a temperature detection value of the indoor heat exchanger. Analogue signals of temperatures detected by pipe temperature sensors A2, B3 and a room temperature sensor 4 are taken by a temperature sensor output taking section 5a, converted into digital signals by A/D converting section 6a, and transmitted to comparison operation section A8a and difference operation section 6b as temperature values of the pipe temperature sensors A2, B3 and the room temperature sensor 4. The comparison operation section A8a compares a failure determination value stored in comparison data storage section A7a in advance, the temperature values of the pipe temperature sensors transmitted from the A/D converting section, and the temperature value of the room temperature sensor 4, and transmits results of the comparisons to the failure determining section 9a. The difference operation section operates difference value between temperature values of the pipe temperature sensors A2, B3, that between the room temperature sensor 4 and the pipe temperature sensor A2, and that between the room temperature sensor 4 and the pipe temperature sensor B3, and transmits them to comparison operation section B8b. The comparison operation section B8b compares a failure determination value stored in the comparison data storage section B7b in advance and each of difference values transmitted from the difference operation section 6b, and transmits a result of the comparison to the failure determining section.
