PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter which has a simplified piping mechanism and excellent uniformity of cleaning of a filtering layer by backwashing. SOLUTION: The filter includes the filtering layer filtering raw water, two or more rows of water collection pipes collecting the permeated water having permeated the filtering layer and a pressure ditch force-feeding water to the two or more rows of water collection pipes and is so constructed that the filtering layer is backwashed by transferring water from the pressure ditch to the water collection pipes. A communication portion connecting the water collection pipes with one another is disposed so that differences between pressures acting on individual water collection pipes transfer water, having been transferred from the pressure ditch to the water collection pipes, between the water collection pipes.
