PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To normally process data recorded by a drive recorder even when a plurality of recording methods are present.

SOLUTION: This drive recorder includes a low-capacity recording mode of an old recording method capable of responding to an old version of an application for the recorder, and a large-capacity recording mode of a new recording method capable of responding to a new version of the application for the recorder but incapable of responding to the old version. The drive recorder selects a recording mode from among a plurality of recording modes (step S11), and records data in a memory card by the recording method of the selected recording mode. Thereby, a new-type drive recorder is operated in the low-capacity recording mode, and thereby data recorded by the new-type drive recorder can be normally processed even when the application for the recorder of the old version corresponding only to the old-type drive recorder is used.
