A controlled release formulation containing particles containing galantamine (active ingredient) or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, a water soluble pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and optionally other pharmaceutically acceptable excipients, said particles being coated by a release rate controlling membrane coating, containing in water insoluble polymer and optionally plasticizer, and a method for production thereof. Dosage form and a pharmaceutical package containing this formulation. Use of therapeutically effective amount of galantamine for production of the controlled release formulation.
