<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that when image data are output using Retinex, since an image processing apparatus performs correction amount calculation and correction regardless of effectiveness for the correction effect, if the processing is carried out for images which have not much correction effect, the processing becomes noneffective from a view point of the performance or a memory using amount. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus and the method include: an illuminance extraction means which extracts an illuminance component from input image data; an image reducing means which reduces the illuminance component, and creates a reduced illuminance component; a filter means which carries out filter processing for the reduced illuminance component, and creates a reduced low frequency illuminance component; a variance discrimination means which calculates variance of the reduced low frequency illuminance component, and carries out discrimination for it by a threshold value; and an illuminance distribution enhancement means which enhances the distribution of the illuminance component using the reduced illuminance component and the reduced low frequency illuminance component. If the variance exceeds a threshold value, they enhance distribution of the illuminance component, and if it does not exceed, they do not enhance the distribution. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
