PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To intensify a near-field light intensity, and at the same time prevent rise in temperature of a near-field light generating element, in a thermal-assisted recording head where a conductive scatterer is used as the element. SOLUTION: The thermal-assisted recording head includes the conductive scatterer that has a cross-sectional shape where the width of the scatterer is gradually narrower toward an apex in which the near-field light is generated, and also has a shape where the width of the scatterer is narrower gradually or incrementally toward the apex in which the optical near-field is generated in a traveling direction of an incident light.
