PURPOSE: A method for providing channel information and a digital broadcast receiver are provided to minimize the confusion of a viewer even when the channel having same virtual channel number is scanned plural times. CONSTITUTION: A method for providing channel information comprises the steps of: extracting a TVCT section within PSIP information from a received broadcasting signal(S802); extracting and decoding TSID field information including a broadcasting station ID information and a transmission station ID number within the extracted TVCT section(S803); configuring and providing an OSD screen for selecting a transmission station based on the transmission station ID number(S804); and filtering a virtual channel number according to the selected transmission station after receiving the transmission station ID number(S806).
