PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein it is necessary after all to go to a job site for confirmation, due to being unable to discriminate whether it is erroneous operation or an almost disconnected state when detection voltage becomes very small, when detecting a vertical tear of a conveyor belt. SOLUTION: The vertical tear detecting device includes a conductive loop coil 13 of becoming a disconnection state in the vertical tear of the conveyor belt 12, a detecting part 14 arranged in the vicinity of the conveyor belt 12 and having a transmission part 14a for generating a high frequency magnetic field for generating an induced current in the loop coil 13 and a receiving part 14b for detecting the induced current generated in the loop coil 13, and a determining part 15 for determining whether or not the loop coil 13 is put in the disconnection state based on voltage data of the loop coil 13 detected by the receiving part 14b when carrying and moving the conveyor belt 12 and not setting as a determining element by automatically eliminating the voltage data based on a comparing result of the voltage data and a preset threshold value.
