Preparing a dispersion of graphene particles or sheets in a liquid medium (6), comprises: (a) providing a bar or block (5) of solid material made of graphite; (b) scraping the material surface (2) of a substrate to create a trace of scraping of the material on the surface of the substrate; and (c) dipping the substrate in a liquid medium and subjecting the liquid medium to ultrasound, where the steps (b) and (c) are performed at least in part, simultaneously.
