PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid jet apparatus which can prevent cross-talk also when a liquid is jetted simultaneously from a plurality of adjoining nozzles in the same nozzle group, and to provide a method for controlling a liquid jet apparatus. SOLUTION: A jet drive pulse DP is a voltage waveform which includes a preliminary expansion portion p1, an expansion hold portion p2, and a contraction portion p3. The contraction portion is comprised of a first contraction element p3a in which the potential changes in the minus direction from an expansion potential VH that is a terminal potential of the preliminary expansion portion, an intermediate hold element p3b which holds an intermediate potential VM1 that is a terminal potential of the first contraction element p3a for a fixed time, and a second contraction element p3c in which the potential changes in the minus direction from the intermediate potential. The hold time of the intermediate hold element is longer than 0 and not longer than 0.12 Tc, and the potential of the intermediate hold element is not smaller than 50% and not larger than 60% of the potential of the hold portion.
