PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which wear of a photoreceptor drum in an area outside the paper feed width is suppressed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus (1) forms a toner image by developing a latent image, formed on the surface of the photoreceptor drum (18) through electrification and exposure, by using toner containing an external additive, and transfers this toner image to a transfer material. The apparatus (1) includes: a destaticization unit (19) for irradiating the surface of the photoreceptor drum with destaticizing light before electrification and removing electric charges left on the surface of the photoreceptor drum after the transfer; and a destaticization intensity-adjusting means (74) which reduces the quantity of destaticizing light for an area outside the paper feed width as viewed from the direction of the axial line of the rotation of the photoreceptor drum and inside a development width, compared to that for an area inside the paper feed width.
