PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which prevents focusing on an object unintended by a camera operator when AF is continuously executed while being in a video selection state. SOLUTION: A lens device 100 having an autofocus function is provided with a photographing state input module to input a signal representing "in photographing state" of the lens device. When an input signal from the photographing state input module is determined to be "in a non-selection state", a first focus range is used as a movable range of a focus lens 106 based on the present focal point. When the input signal from the photographing state input module is "in a video selection state", a second focus range narrower than the first focus range is used as the movable range of the focus lens 106 based on the present focal point.
