PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop operation and prevent freezing when supply of water stops during operation, and when there is no supply of water at compressor starting. SOLUTION: In the air conditioner, an outdoor unit 1 including a plate type heat exchanger 4 having a plate carrying water and a plate carrying a refrigerant, a compressor 2, and an outdoor expansion valve 5; and an indoor unit 23 including an indoor heat exchanger 25 are connected by pieces of refrigerant piping 10, 11. A temperature sensor 9 is included on a side face of the plate type heat exchanger, temperatures of the plate carrying water and the plate carrying the refrigerant are measured by the temperature sensor, and if a value of the temperature sensor becomes a predetermined value or less, operation of the compressor is stopped.
