<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for enabling an ellipse of a head which approximates an contour of the head from an image including a head of a person to be detected with high accuracy by reducing an unfavorable influence caused by an edge of a bust of the person and a noise edge existing in a background. <P>SOLUTION: An information processing apparatus for deciding the ellipse of the head approximating the contour of the head from the image including the head of the person detects a plurality of pixels in the contour of the head as an edge pixel from the image, decides a plurality of ellipses passing through the edge pixel related to each of the plurality of edge pixels as an ellipse candidate from a previously-decided parameter zone among parameters for specifying the ellipse, calculates an evaluation value based on a position of the edge pixel in the ellipse candidate for each of a plurality of ellipse candidates decided with respect to the edge pixel in units of the plurality of edge pixels, accumulates the evaluation value in each decided ellipse candidate, and selects the ellipse candidate whose accumulated value of the evaluation value is the largest as the ellipse of the head. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
