The method involves measuring an individual voltage of cells of a battery over a predetermined time. The individual average voltage of each cell is calculated, where the voltage is defined by a specific relationship comprising parameters such as individual voltage of the cell. A total average voltage is calculated from average voltages of the cells by using the specific relationship. An average dispersion of the voltage of the cells of the battery is calculated. The average dispersion is compared with a predetermined imbalance threshold.
