PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the manufacturing apparatus of an optical fiber preform and the method thereof by which occurrence of the breaking of a glass pipe is prevented, and a rotary joint.

SOLUTION: The manufacturing apparatus of the optical fiber preform is provided with a torque transmission assistant member 5 for integrally rotating a rotary chuck 1 for holding the middle part Pb of the glass pipe P and the inner cylindrical part 30 of the rotary joint 3 to which the tip part Pa of the glass pipe P is fixed and which is present in the supply side of a raw material gas. The torque transmission assistant member 5 is connected to a rotation force transmission cylindrical body 2 for rotating the inner cylindrical body 30 and the rotary chuck 1, or to the rotary chuck 1.
