PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for continuously producing carbon nanoparticles in a low-cost and efficient fashion. SOLUTION: A voltage is applied between a cathode 14 and a graphite anode 12 in a fluid 20 to generate an arc discharge in a gap 34 between those. An inert gas is introduced into the gap 34 from a cylinder 28 at a predetermined flow rate. Carbon nanoparticles are formed from carbon vapor formed in the gap 34 by the arc discharge.
