PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for holding a band saw blade and a band saw blade guide device capable of holding a gap between a fixed insert block and a movable insert block for holding and guiding the band saw blade to an appropriate gap corresponding to the thickness of the band saw blade. SOLUTION: This method relates to holding of the band saw blade 5 by the band saw blade guide device in a band saw machine. When a body part of the band saw blade 5 is held by the fixed insert block 9 and the movable insert block 15 provided in the band saw blade guide device 1, a pressing screw member 21 provided in the band saw blade guide device 1 is fastened to move the movable insert block 15 to the fixed insert block 9 side and the body part of the band saw blade 5 is strongly pinched by the movable insert block 15 and the fixed insert block 9. Subsequently, the pressing screw member 21 is loosened, the loosened pressing screw member 21 is locked in an immovable state, and holding force of the band saw blade 5 by the fixed insert block 9 and the movable insert block 15 is weakened to hold the band saw blade 5.
