<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery having a structure capable of keeping the cracked gas of an electrolyte from being released out of a battery case and flowing back into a vehicle interior, without having to additionally provide piping for discharging the cracked gas, and also having an effective cooling structure for a large battery of high energy density. <P>SOLUTION: The secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a battery element electrically connected between the positive electrode and the negative electrode and having a nonaqueous electrolyte, a battery case for housing the battery element, and a hollow core passing through the battery case and allowing cooling air to circulate through. Space created by the hollow core is independent of space within the battery case. The space created by the hollow core leads to the outside. The hollow core has a safety valve which communicates the space created by the hollow core with the space within the battery case when the space within the battery case reaches a predetermined pressure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
