<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat insulating body for a vehicle exhaust pipe, remarkably shortening light-off time and having superior heat insulation property. <P>SOLUTION: This heat insulating body 1 is wound around the periphery of the vehicle exhaust pipe 2. Plate-like thermal insulating material 5 is positioned between two heat-resisting metallic foils, the outer peripheral edges of the two metal foils are overlapped with each other so as to surround the thermal insulating material, and the outer peripheral edges of the overlapped metallic foils except for a part are airtightly joined to form a bag-like shape with the part opened.
