PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid material treatment device which attains compatibility between water saving and prevention of the clogging of a distributing pipe. SOLUTION: The garbage treatment device 1 as a solid material treatment device is configured so as to rotatively drive a swing hammer 18 in the reverse rotation direction D2 in the initial stage for crushing non-crushed garbage, raise water level in a garbage treatment chamber 8 without increasing water feed quantity by the rotative driving and, thereby, suppress the crushed amount of the non-crushed garbage by means of the swing hammer 18 in the initial stage for crushing non-crushed garbage.
