Disclosed is a light emitting device equipped with a substrate (2) upon which a light emitting element (3) is mounted, and a frame body (4) that is disposed upon the substrate (2). The frame body (4) has a first frame body section (4a) disposed upon the substrate (2) in a manner so as to surround the light emitting element (3), wherein the height of the top of the inner wall surface of the first frame body section is set higher than the height of the upper surface of the light emitting element (3) and the inner wall surface is disposed in a manner that is nearly vertical to the upper surface of the substrate (2); and a second frame body section (4b) that is disposed in a manner so as to surround the inner wall surface of the first frame body section (4a) when viewed from above, and is formed in a manner such that the inner surface thereof expands outward from the bottom towards the top. Additionally, the light emitting device (1) is equipped with a wavelength conversion section (5) that is supported by the top of the frame body (4) and is disposed facing the substrate (2) with a space therebetween.
