A catheter guidewire advancement device 14 comprised of an at least partially transparent housing 18 having scale markings 23, a guidewire 16, and a thumb roller 24, said guidewire 16 being coiled within said housing 18, said markings 23 being aligned with the coiled guidewire 16 such that upon extension of the guidewire 16, the marking 23 adjacent to the distal end 26 of the wire 16 correlates with the length of wire 16 extended from the housing 18.
