The device has a storage vessel (12) for fluid e.g. cleaning or disinfection medium, and a cleaning chamber (40) for arranging a dental instrument (4). A medium pipe connects the vessel with the chamber, and a measuring device (10) determines amount of fluid in the vessel. The measuring device has a data-technically readable sensor, where the sensor is designed as a pressure sensor (11) and connected with the vessel. An evaluation unit (30) evaluates values detected by the sensor, and an optical or acoustical display (32) is connected with the evaluation unit and/or a control unit (31). An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a fill level of fluid in a storage vessel of a cleaning device.
