The safety magnifying glass has an optical system for focusing of incident light with two light transmitting surfaces. The optical system has a convex cylindrical lens structure at one of its light transmitting surfaces. The cylinder axes (1.3,1.5) of the cylindrical lens structures run transverse to each other. The optical system is partially made of glass or of transparent plastic, particularly polymethyl methacrylate, polycarbonate, cyclo-olefin polymer or cyclo-olefin copolymer.
