Provided is a permanent magnet dynamo electric machine, wherein the restraining structure of a rotor before being coupled with a prime mover can cope sufficiently with restraining of the rotor in the rotational direction (circumferential direction) as well as the axial direction and the radial direction, even in the case of a permanent magnet dynamo electric machine having a large capacity rotor cantilever supporting structure. A permanent magnet dynamo electric machine (1) has a rotor cantilever supporting structure which supports only one end side of the shaft (7) of a rotor (3) through a bearing (9) provided on one side of the casing (2) of a dynamo electric machine. One end of the rotor shaft (7) not supported by a bearing can be coupled with one end of the shaft of a prime mover through a flange (10) provided at one end of the shaft. The flange (10) not supported by the bearing is coupled with one end face of the casing (2) through a coupling member (12) for restraining so that motion of the rotor shaft (7) is restrained in the axial direction, the radial direction and the circumferential direction when the rotor shaft (7) is not coupled with the shaft of a prime mover.
