A short-circuit protection circuit (12) which protects a switching element from overcurrent is provided with: a potential decreasing means for decreasing the potential of a gate terminal when the main circuit current is an overcurrent; a feedback means for feedback controlling the drop in the gate potential, which was decreased by means of the potential decreasing means, depending on the amount of current in the main circuit; and a phase advancing means for compensating the phase advance in a feedback loop created by the feedback control.
