摘要 A gene involved in the acidic environmental compatibility is searched among genes of Cyanidioschyzon merolae, and a gene useful for the production of a transgenic plant having excellent stress tolerance including acid tolerance and metal ion tolerance is found. Thus, disclosed is a method for imparting tolerance to a plant; a plant that is transformed with the gene; and use of the gene as a research tool. Specifically disclosed are: a method for imparting acid tolerance and metal ion tolerance to a plant by introducing the gene (a) or (b) mentioned below into the plant; and a transformant produced by the method. (a) A gene which encodes a protein comprising the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1 shown in the Sequence Listing. (b) A gene which encodes a protein comprising an amino acid sequence produced by the deletion, substitution or addition in the amino acid sequence mentioned in item (a) and which can impart acid tolerance and metal ion tolerance to the plant.
