The interface (1) i.e. character speller (2), has a set of selectable detection surfaces (10) with data information (9) for inputting data by touching the detection surfaces, and a selection circuit (11) for limiting the number of data information provided for selecting the detection surfaces depending on parameters. The selection circuit enlarges the detection surface of the selectable data information towards an adjacent detection surface that is associated to non-selectable data information, where the detection surface is provided on a touch screen and/or a touch pad. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a touch sensitive user interface.
