The method for forming markings on the surface of workpieces with a plasma burner, where the plasma burner and the workpiece are moved two dimensionally to each other, comprises forming a plasma by an electrode connected as cathode, and a nozzle and/or the workpiece, which is connected as anode at an electric power source, and forming a plasma gas that is directed towards the surface to be marked by the nozzle, with which the markings are formed on the surface of workpieces by a heat input. The electric current is used for the plasma formation. The electric current is used for the plasma formation, and/or the distance of the nozzle of the plasma burner to surface of the workpiece, and/or the composition of the plasma gas and/or the volume flow of the supplied plasma gas and/or the composition of a secondary gas and/or the volume flow of supplied secondary gas are controlled in dependent upon the feed rate and/or the electrical voltage of electric arc formed between the plasma burner and the workpiece for respective time at the respective position of the surface of the workpiece. The electric current is decreased when reducing the feed rate or changing the electrical voltage of the electric arc. The distance between the plasma burner and the workpiece surface is increased. Argon is used as plasma gas instead of air or nitrogen or an increased proportion of argon is used in a plasma gas mixture and/or the volume flow of the supplied plasma gas and/or secondary gas is reduced. The electrical current that is used for the plasma formation is reduced proportionally or disproportionately in relation to the decreased feed rate. The acceleration of the feed motion and/or a change in feed direction are determined for the regulation or monitoring of the feed rate. The regulation is carried out when the detected electric voltage of the electric arc between the plasma torch and workpiece exceeds or falls below a default threshold value or is changed such that it lies outside of a predetermined range. After formation of the markings, the workpiece is subjected to shaping in the same adjusted position with the plasma burner by plasma cutting. |
