The system has an upper sensor (7) generating an upper detection beam (f1) whose lower limit forms an upper limit of zone (A) and delivers a detection signal representing presence or absence of platform in the beam. A lower sensor (8) generates a lower detection beam (f2) whose lower limit forms a lower limit of the zone and delivers a detection signal representative of presence or absence of platform in the lower detection beam. Signals processing unit is arranged for emitting a location signal of platform edge in the zone when the signals represent the absence and presence of platform. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a rail vehicle, comprising a movable access device to a threshold of rail vehicle and a detection system of platform (2) a method of detecting a platform in a rail vehicle.
