1,172,739. Transporting motor vehicles. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. 1 March, 1967 [2 March, 1966], No. 9722/67. Heading B8H. In a method for the further transport of motor vehicles, assembled ready for driving, from the end of a production line, each vehicle, provided with wheels or wheels and tyres, is placed on a carrier comprising a pair of separate runners which extends beyond it at both its front and rear ends and which is of approximately the same width as the vehicle, each runner having restraining means for at least one vehicle wheel for holding the vehicle on the carrier and being transportable separately when not in use. As shown the carrier comprises two runners 18, 20 each comprising two box-section longitudinal members 42 connected by front and rear base-plates 46, 48, the latter having two humps 50 by which the rear wheel 56 of a vehicle 10 is restrained. Using such runners 18, 20 the vehicles can be transported by a vehicle transfer system, e.g. an apron or pivoted plate conveyer 70. Destination information, and so on, may be carried by the carriers. |
