PURPOSE: A negative active material for a rechargeable lithium battery and a rechargeable lithium battery including the same are provided to secure excellent cycle lifetime characteristics since an Si-based core, a carbon coating layer coated on the surface of the core, and inorganic salts positioned on the surface of the carbon coating layer are included. CONSTITUTION: A negative active material for a rechargeable lithium battery includes: an Si-based core(223); a carbon coating layer(225) coated on the surface of the Si-based core; and inorganic salts(227) positioned on the surface of the carbon coating layer. The Si-based core is selected from Si, SiOx(0 < x < 2), Si-Z alloy, or a combination thereof. |
