The method involves separating a block-shaped element blank (12) from a material strand (10). The blank in a die is thermoformed to a metal plate-like element (14) such that a distance between front and rear facing surfaces (12-3, 12-4) of the blank is reduced when a distance between upper and lower surfaces (12-1, 12-2) of the blank is constant. A continuous profile of side surfaces (12-5, 12-6) of the blank is produced in the metal plate-like element by material extrusion in the die. A hole (18) extending from the upper surface to the lower surface is formed in the plate-like element.
