A phenol is displaced from a spent anion exchange resin (which has been used to neutralize the ketone-and phenol-containing mixture resulting from acid-catalysed cleavage of a hydroperoxide) by contact with an aliphatic ketone, prior to regeneration with an alkaline solution. Specified initial materials are a ,a -dimethylbenzyl hydroperoxide, its a -methyl-a -ethyl analogue and its p-methyl, p-ethyl, p-isopropyl and p-t-butyl homologues; and a ,a -dimethylnaphthylmethyl hydroperoxide. |
