The invention relates to a method for treating Alzheimer's disease by inducing sequestration of amyloid &bgr; into a plasma with a A&bgr;-mimotope peptide, and treatment with an apheresis device such that a fixed carrier can come into contact with the blood or plasma flow and includes a receptor that binds to an amyloid-&bgr; precursor-protein (APP), the APP being removed from the blood with the apheresis device.
