A dehydrogenation catalyst comprises at least 50 wt. per cent of iron, zinc and/or magnesium oxides, up to 10 wt. per cent of an alkali metal carbonate and/or oxide, up to 10 wt. per cent of an alkali metal chromate and/or dichromate and not more than 2,5 wt. per cent of vanadium. Optional ingredients of the catalyst are 5-10 wt. per cent Cu2O and/or graphite, 3-5 wt. per cent of a refractory cement and 3-5 wt. per cent of methyl cellulose of high molecular weight. The catalyst is activated with steam at 200 DEG -650 DEG C.ALSO:Styrene is produced from a mixture of steam and ethylbenzene by dehydrogenation at 550 DEG C.-675 DEG C. over a novel catalyst comprising at least 50wt. per cent of iron, zinc and/or magnesium oxides, up to 10wt. per cent. of an alkali metal carbonate and/or oxide, up to 10wt. per cent. of an alkali metal chromate and/or dichromate and not more htan 2.5wt. per cent. of vanadium.
