The present invention provides methods of treating inflammatory diseases mediated by polyunsaturated lipid metabolites by inhibiting epoxide hydrolase, methods for assaying or screening the epoxide hydrolase inhibitors for inhibitory specificity and for toxicity, and novel biologically active tetrahydrofuran diols of arachidonic acid, including antibodies thereto.
