A method of controlling the configuration of a substance where a compatibly selected feedstock material and a moving kinetic energy fluid are brought in contact with each other to form drops of the feedstock material. The drop size is kept within a predetermined size range by adjusting at least one of a pressure of the kinetic energy fluid, a velocity of the kinetic energy fluid, a velocity of the feedstock material, a thickness of the feedstock material, a width of the kinetic energy fluid, a width of the feedstock material, a temperature of the feedstock material, and a viscosity of the feedstock material.
