Disclosed is a heat recovery system including a highly thermally stable working fluid, characterized in that said working fluid comprises a highly thermally stable working fluid suitable for operating in the range of about -50C up to 350C, comprising as the major component at least one compound of formula (I): CnH2n+2 wherein n is between 9 and 20, and wherein the compounds of formula (I) have at least three branched methyl groups. Further disclosed are heat transfer cycles and Rankine cycle power plants including the same working fluids.
