Using cytosine deaminases to diminish retroelement transfer from pigs to humans

Provided is a transgenic pig, the nucleated cells of which comprise a nucleic acid construct expressing non-porcine cytosine deaminase polypeptide, giving decreased capability to transmit porcine endogenous retroviruses to human cells. Further provided are tissues and cells from such pigs.
