Beta-Galactosidase with transgalactosylating activity

Disclosed is a beta-galactosidase with transgalactosylating activity which has a DNA sequence which a) encodes a protein with an amino acid sequence as given in SEQ. ID. NO: 2, or b) is a degenerative of the DNA sequence of a), said degenerative being from 75% to 95% sequence identity. Also disclosed is the use of the enzyme for producing a mixture of oligosaccharides.
