PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a load test apparatus and a method of load testing for safely removing a load after reaching the maximum load, without destroying a test specimen, even with respect to specimen having a flexible structure. SOLUTION: The load test apparatus device 25 includes a plurality of loading members, and a control section 59 for controlling the loading operation of the respective loading members, and performs a loading test on the test specimen 23, by applying a load on a plurality of places of the specimen 23 by the respective loading members. In the load test apparatus, the control section 59 includes a load removal control section 119 for controlling load removal operation, after performing a loading test of the specimen 23; while the load removal control section 119 is provided with a safe load removal mode for performing displacement control for the load removal operation of the respective loading members, with the amount of displacement of the specimen 23 as a control target.
