PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus including an automatic white balance function for discriminating a type and color temperature of a light source with sufficient accuracy, and to provide an imaging system using the imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a first optical system 1 which intercepts infrared light from an object to generate an optical image comprising visible light; an image sensor 3 which performs photoelectric conversion of the optical image to generate imaging signals for each color; an adjustment part 4 which performs gain adjustment of the imaging signals for each color to generate the adjusted imaging signals; a chromaticity part 5 which generates chromaticity distribution of white candidate areas from the object based on the adjusted imaging signals; a second optical system 6 which condenses light beams from at least a part of the object at predetermined optical photographing distance to generate the condensed light; and a discrimination part 8 which discriminates the type and the color temperature range of the light source for illuminating the object, wherein the discrimination part 8 generates gain adjustment values for each color based on the chromaticity distribution and wavelength characteristics of the condensed light and outputs the adjustment values to the adjustment part 4.
