Apparatus for packaging stockings winds each stocking into a coil, removes an open-ended tubular packaging sleeve from a magazine and opens it and draws the coiled stocking into the sleeve. The machine described includes four identical winding, 9, and sleeve extracting arms 10, mounted on an intermittently rotatable head 12. The packages are intended to be placed in the pockets of an elongated further wrapper, the pockets being detachable for individual sale. The operator places a stocking 3 from a stack, between parallel rods on the coiling head 9 adjacent the worktable. The head rotates to form the coil and the turn-table moves 90 degrees to bring the stocking opposite a sleeve magazine 5. The arm 10, normally held raised by a roller 28 running in a fixed cam cylinder 29, is allowed to descend by a gap in the latter and comes under control of a vertically movable cam track sector 40 which engages a roller 43 at its extremity. Suction grippers 31 on the arm 10 engage a sleeve 11, the arm is raised and sleeve and stocking carried to a third station where further suction grippers 38 rise from below to draw down the sleeve to open it. The open sleeve is now aligned with frustoconical guides 36, 37, and a radially moving gripper 33 (see also Figs. 7, 8, not shown), passes through the sleeve, grasps the stocking and pulls it off the winder 9 to leave it within the sleeve. The grippers 38 descend and the arm carries the package 90 degrees to a discharge station where the grippers 31 release it into a shoot (7), Fig. 2 (not shown).</p> |
