CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR PART LOAD CONTROL ALGORITHM FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE

A compressor system (5) having a centrifugal compressor (10), controller (16) and an interface (18) is disclosed. The compressor (10) includes adjustable guide vanes (12) and a variable geometry diffuser (14). The controller (16) is in electrical communication with each of the guide vanes (12) and diffuser (14) so as to monitor and adjust positions thereof in accordance with a predetermined control algorithm. The control algorithm is implemented in accordance with a method of controlling the centrifugal compressor (10). The method adjusts the position of the diffuser (14) based on the actual lift, guide vane position and predetermined relationships between diffuser position and reference lift.
