PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem with a scroll compressor wherein an increase of a thrust load due to excessive application of the back pressure to an orbiting scroll in transition of operating condition and immediately after starting the scroll compressor causes deterioration of performance and lowering of reliability. SOLUTION: Excessive application of the back pressure to the orbiting scroll 108 in transition when changing operating condition and immediately after starting the scroll compressor can be prevented by providing: a communication path 119 connecting a high-pressure region 115 and a back pressure chamber 116 to each other; an intermittent communication path 120 intermittently communicating the back pressure chamber 116 and a compression chamber 110 with each other; and a pressure reducing path 121 for communicating the back pressure chamber 116 and the compression chamber 110 with each other when the pressure of the back pressure chamber 116 rises to a set value or more.
