PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coating giving a coating film of good appearance based on surface layer viscosity measured under a non-contact condition; a coating film formed by using the coating; a coated article with a coating film formed by using the coating; and a method for forming a coating film by using the coating. SOLUTION: This coating is characterized in that the measured value of surface layer viscosity by the electric field pick-up method falls within the range of 500-3,100 mPa s (the preferable range S) at any point where the rate of non-volatile content becomes from 90 to 100 mass%, in the course that the volatile component is vaporized after the coating is applied onto the article to be applied.
