PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transition metal complex useful as a polymerization catalyst for an olefin polymer such as an ethylene/α-olefin copolymer having a high copolymerization ratio of a structural unit derived from anα-olefin. SOLUTION: The transition metal complex is represented by formula [1] (wherein: M is a group 4 transition metal atom in the periodic table of the elements; A is a group 16 atom in the periodic table of the elements; and J is a group 14 atom in the periodic table of the elements) and the olefin polymerization catalyst is prepared from the transition metal complex.
