PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bis(hydroxyformylphenyl) compound useful as a raw material of a photoresist, and a polynuclear polyphenol compound derived therefrom. SOLUTION: The polynuclear polyphenol compound is represented by formula (7). Representative compounds include 2,6-bisä(3-formyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)methyl}-4-phenylphenol, 2,6-bisä(3-formyl-4-methoxycarbonylmethoxyphenyl)methyl}-4-phenyl-1-methoxycarbonylmethoxybenzene, and the like.
